Went to do a tire rotation today and realized I had corded my front left tire.
It does explain the loss of grip in the last session though... :)

My E90 M3 front tires are so worn that I stopped driving it. That heavy car eats up tires just driving on the street. Can't imagine how quickly it would eat them up on the track.
What kind of M3 are you taking out on the track?

Could be worse, could be Pirellis...

LOL
I hated Pirellis even before F1.
I had a pair of their Trofeos (which were replaced almost immediately by "R"s) and I've never hated tires like I hated that set...
I had a 170km/h tank slapper going into turn 1 at Circuit Mont Tremblant and sold them soon after.

I wish I could do autox :(

It's a supercharged E46 M3.

I've never really been into autocross and so I've never tried it. I much prefer full tracks.
I should give it a shot next season...

What's the obstacle? I won't take "ES" for an answer.

What's "ES"?

I'd love to go on a track too!

Holy crap! That thing is mean. How much power is it putting out?
What state do you live in? I'm in CA and adding a supercharger makes the car illegal because it won't pass smog.
Do you have trouble keeping the engine cool on on hot days? Or did the cooling mods you make take care of that?
Sorry for all the questions. I have a stock 2004 E46 M3 that I bought to get on the track. I haven't been able to yet because I bought a new house and it sucked up all my money. Your ride is motivating me to work hard and keep the car so I can improve it later and get on the track.
Really nice ride you have. I like that you're in front of the GT3 RS. You probably have no issue beating stock Porsches :)

you drive a Lexus ES no?

oh yeah! It's an awesome car :)
And of course I wouldn't use that as an excuse. In fact, I'd actually cross *that*
Of course I do have an issue with the ABS which activates almost EVERY stop!

You can actually find most of the answers in the comments from this post: M3 On Track
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The car still runs hot, but it's so far been manageable. I lose too much horsepower though, so that's my winter project, finding more cooling (even though I've almost done everything possible). I'm going to go water/meth and focus on moving air correctly.
In Montreal it's not as stringent as in LA, so no problem having a supercharger.

Thanks, I'll check out that post you linked to.
Good luck with the winter project!

Two quick questions as I am looking at getting some NT01s.
1. Did you shave the tread down or leave the 6/32nd from the beginning?
and 2. How long did these last you?
Thanks!!

Thanks!

I did not shave these tires in any way. Put them on and ran with them.
They were purchased last year and I alternated between the R-S3s and these.
I can't give a really fair assessment of the tire's longevity because one of the tracks is on an airport surface that eats tires, my camber settings are now very aggressive, my rear wing doesn't have an equivalent up front so there's been a lot of understeer, and finally there's plenty of rubber left in other parts and on the rear tires.
Personally I think it's a great tire in that category and I don't have any others I'm really interested in running.
For me the R-S3 is the best street tire, the NT01 is a great "mod" tire, and I'd like to try endurance slicks next year to round off my tire sets.

Thanks for the info, I was debating to get these for the occasional daily drive and otherwise just for fun. I'm running about -2* camber, but want something with a decent life. My previous sets have had miserable tread wear so these can't be much worse. Also, how would you say that the grip compares to the RS-3s?

Just speaking personally, I find track tires and street tires really have different needs.
On the track, I'd take the R-S3 in a heartbeat because the tire tread is solid and you won't lose chunks off the edges. But for street, stuff like the Continental Extreme Contact are mind blowing in how well they do EVERYTHING, especially in the wet.
Just something to keep in mind.

That's a really good point, clearly illustrated by the chunks of rubber left everywhere on a road course. And the RS3 might be something I will take a closer look at.
Also, I currently am running the Conti Extreme Contact DWS and they really do a good job with anything I can throw at them, even almost bald up front they hold on really well.
